Baxter Springs Fire Department receives Donation of Kawasaki Mule
Rotary District Governor Multi-District 6110 Ken Colley, Baxter Springs Fire Chief Gunnar Wixon, Rotary Director of Operations, Medical Supplies Network, Larry Biron
The Rotary Club Multi-District 6110, which covers Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas raised about $10, 000, and purchased the Baxter Springs Fire Department a Kawasaki Mule utility vehicle. This utility vehicle will be a great asset to the community and fire district. These vehicles were the heaviest used during the tornado. The department didn’t have anything like this and reached out to neighboring counties and towns during the tornado and borrowed theirs. Adding this vehicle to our fleet will allow us to be more mobile if situations like that happen again and will also allow us to help aid firefighters and citizens in areas were normal vehicles will not go.
The Rotary Club in Tulsa was contacted by a member who was in Baxter Springs, helping his father with the clean-up after the tornado. He had asked what can we do? The Rotary then offered to collect donations for the City of Baxter Springs. They contacted the fire department to see if there was anything that they needed. Fire Chief Gunnar Wixon stated that the department had been saving towards a Kawasaki Mule. Biron asked how much they cost, Wixon stated about $10,000 and Biron said that was about the amount of money they had collected for the City of Baxter Springs.
The decals on the mule were made by Thunder Graphics.
