Baxter Springs will not receive FEMA assistance

Baxter Springs – Several area residents attended the informational meeting that was held at the Baxter Springs High School on Saturday, May 3.
Jonathan York, Branch Director of Kansas Division of Emergency Management, announced that the assessments had been in the area since Monday morning and the preliminary reports indicated the tornado did not have the magnitude to be able to provide FEMA assistance. The threshold is $4.5 million in uninsured damage and Baxter Springs is at $1 million. It was asked if Quapaw could be included, and it was stated that each state must stand on thier own.
