If you happened to pass by the Galena High School cafeteria on Wednesday, April 30th, you may have heard laughter and giggles, seen lots ice cream, and felt the excitement. Bulldog Buddies, the mentoring program at Galena USD 499, celebrated another successful school year with an ice cream event to honor the students and their volunteers.
Celebrating their 15th year as a school based mentoring program, Teressa Berry and Theresa Noland, Galena Bulldog Buddies Coordinators, attribute the success of the program to the commitment of their volunteers.
This year, there were 80 active volunteers serving 160 students at Spring Grove Primary Center and Liberty Elementary. On April 30th, everyone gathered for a final time to celebrate their friendship by making ice cream sundaes and viewing highlights of the past year.
Looking back on a great year and looking forward to 2014-2015, many students need volunteers and we hope to add more volunteers to our Bulldog Buddies family. If you are interested in knowing more about how to become a Bulldog Buddies volunteer, please contact the school at 620-783-4499.
