An EF-2 tornado struck the community of Baxter Springs at approximately 5:46 p.m. Sunday evening, April 27. Jason Allison, Cherokee County emergency manager, reported the tornado was estimated to be three blocks wide running southwest to northeast. Sheriff David Groves stated that there were nine individuals that were transported by ambulance, twenty-five that were treated at the scene, and one death that was medical related during the time of the tornado.
