LaTurner files for Re-election | Sentinel Times

Topeka- Senator Jake LaTurner filed for a second term today. LaTurner was first elected in 2012 and represents the 13th senate district, which includes Crawford, Cherokee, Southern Bourbon, and Southeast Labette Counties. The general election will be held on November 8th 2016.
“I have made Topeka listen to us. It is time to build on the success of giving citizens the right to vote on property taxes, reforming the welfare system, and making sure our schools are properly funded,” LaTurner said. He continued, “The people of Southeast Kansas have been and will continue to be my top priority.”
The property tax lid, authored by LaTurner and passed last year, calls for a public vote if property taxes are to increase beyond the rate of inflation. When it comes to welfare reform, LaTurner specifically cites providing work training and drug testing as the most meaningful changes. He also states, “Schools in my district are receiving more funding today than when I took office, and I will make sure the new formula provides future generations with a quality education.”
LaTurner has been a fierce advocate for the second amendment and the unborn. “Obama has made continued attempts to destroy the second amendment and protect planned parenthood, and I will continue to stand strong on these important issues,” LaTurner said. Although no one has officially filed against LaTurner he says that he plans on meeting with citizens and will “work hard for every single vote.”
