Levi Casey

Baxter Springs, Kansas – Levi E. Casey, age 84, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri on April 27, 2017.
Levi was born in rural Chetopa, on November 2, 1932 to the union of James Emmett Casey and Marie Ruth (Stapleton) Casey, and the only boy out of their six children. He graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1950, and later attended NEO A&M College for a short time.
Levi worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight and Bingham Sand & Gravel, and also worked at B.F. Goodrich for 2 years. His passion was in agriculture. Levi was a farmer and a rancher, working crops in the field and raising cattle. He enjoyed being outdoors with the livestock, as well as hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Co-op, where he served as head of the board, a member of the Soil Conservation Board, he was the 1977 Bankers Award Recipient for Soil Conservation, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Baxter Springs, the Mirza Shrine in Pittsburg, and the Gideon’s International Organization. He was also a Deacon of First Baptist Church of Riverton, and an avid believer in the Southern Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Casey; and three sisters, Ava Marie Casey, Ersie Darlene Strickland, and Iva Pauline Huneycutt. Survivors include two sisters, Lorene Brannin (husband, Chester) of Oswego, and Gayla Jackson (husband, John) of Baxter Springs; as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Michael Pearce will officiate. Pallbearers will be Clark Casey, Dallas Dean Casey, Charles Casey, Cale Strickland, Brian Strickland, and Robert Keith, and honorary pallbearers will be Adam Carter, Chester Lee Stapleton, and George Wesley Stapleton.
Masonic Rites took place at Derfelt’s Chapel on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 6:00 pm, and the visitation followed until 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon international Organization.
