Rams Get Past Baxter 30 to 21

Jeffrey Davis | Riverton, Kansas

The Riverton Rams, in their first home game of the year, got a win, scoring the last two touchdowns of the game, to come out on top of their old rivals- the Lions- in a back and forth and penalty filled contest.
The Rams were led by Will Shawver and his brother, Ethan, with Will accounting for three scores and 141 yards rushing and Ethan’s 66 yards and three two- point conversions. After converting on a 4th down from the Ram 40 QB, Kyler Reece, who played his heart out for the Lions, scored from the one to get on the board first.
Baxter fumbled it to the Rams on the first play of consecutive drives and Riverton scored when Will scooted 37 yards around the end to score, showing some good speed, as the Rams took an 8 to 7 lead to the second quarter.
The Rams Kaylb Allan intercepted a Lion pass and had a nice return, setting up another touchdown by Will, on a weaving 19 yard run, making it 14 to 7. This looked like it would be the score going to the half but on a 4th and 13 with 8 seconds remaining, Garrett Paxson got behind the Rams and Reece connected on a pretty pass for a 32 yard touchdown, which was a very deflating turn of events for the Rams, going to the break tied at 14.
Reece led a Lion drive finishing it with a one yard score and it was now the Lions with the lead again at 21 to 14.
Will countered with a 39 yard touchdown run capped by Ethan’s two point run and the Rams were back ahead, 22 to 21.
A big play in the game happened when Baxter had a 4th and 16 from the Ram 30, a Reece pass was caught by a wide open receiver for an apparent score, but it was nullified as he was just past the line of scrimmage and the Rams took over with 7 minutes to play ahead by one.
Riverton did what was needed, with the offensive line blocking well, went on a long clock eating drive and sealed the win with Ethan going in from the two, and then getting in for the two point conversion for the 30 to 21 win, in the hard fought contest.
The Rams are now 1 and 1 on the year and will be home on Friday entertaining Lighthouse Christian.
Good luck to the Rams.
