Galena – Vanessa Jean Comer, Age 57, passed away at 2:33 AM at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center on May 6, 2014
Vanessa was born on July 1, 1956 in Joplin, Mo., to Norman E. and Joyce Ellen (Keyser) Comer.
She graduated from Parkwood High School in 1974. She was a unit clerk at St. Johns Regional Medical Center for 35 years last working in 2009. Vanessa was of the Baptist faith and participated in the Rainbow Girls. She enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts, cooking and collecting recipes.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather Joyce and Deryl Herren of Joplin, Mo, one half brother Todd Comer, two sisters, Carrie Hatmon (husband Paul) of Knobnoster, Mo., and Cheryl Flowers (husband Mark) of Richmond, VA, five nieces and nephews, Blake Price ,Matthew Hatmon, Natalie Hatmon, Brittany Flowers and Shelby Flowers.
Vanessa was preceded in death by her father and step-father Willie Morgan.
Funeral service were held Monday May 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Galena, Kan. Burial followed at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, Mo. Pastors Jeff Swart and Paul Mooney officiated Visitation will take place at the church, one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Blake Price, Matthew Hatmon, Aaron Polok, Mark Keyser, Mike Keyser, Robbie Keyser and Jeff Keyser. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
