Baxter Springs, Kansas – Connie Jean Jackson, 87, passed from this life on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Facility.

Connie was born to Wesley J. and Mildred May (Miller) Martin on September 22, 1936, in Carl Junction, Missouri. Connie graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1953. She then attended Joplin Business College. Connie worked for over 20 years as a waitress at Blue Castle Café in Baxter Springs, along at the same time she worked for over 20 years at Root Manufacturing until the company closed. She then went to work as Executive Secretary at (TEI) Thermal Engineering Company in Joplin, Missouri, until her retirement in 2002.

Connie enjoyed bowling in a league for 30 years. She loved traveling to Fan Fair in Nashville, Tennessee and Branson, Missouri. Attending Conway Twitty concerts was her favorite. Simple things she enjoyed close to home were a good meal at Red Lobster or Spring River Buffet. When she was able, she attended church at Tennessee Prairie Church. She was known to babysit and drive Joseph Barnes to and from school and various places. He considered her his chauffeur.

Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Mildred Martin; siblings, Shirley Brooner, Mary Ann Barnes, and Larry Martin.

Connie is survived by her sister, Carol McAffrey and husband, Ron of Baxter Springs; four nieces, Kimberley Barnes, Jennifer Barnes, Angela Marney, Ashley Martin; two nephews, Dr. Bobby Barnes, Shane Griffith; special great nephew, Joseph Barnes; Along with several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Lowell Cemetery. Pastor Dave Robinson officiated. Family received friends on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs.
